Kamana’opono Crabbe New OHA CEO, Hūlō!

January 28th, 2012

The Crabbe backyard in Moanalua was packed with family and friends wishing Kamana'opono well in his new role as OHA CEO.

Tonight the Crabbe ‘ohana threw a pā’ina in honor of their brother, son, nephew, cousin, father, and friend, Kamana’opono, who will assume the reins of the Office of Hawaiian Affairs as new Chief Executive Officer next month, replacing the retired Clyde Nāmu’o. Crabbe is the first new CEO for OHA in over a decade. Hundreds gathered at the Crabbe home in Moanalua Valley this evening to convey their joy at his selection and their hope for the future of OHA and Hawaiians everywhere.

Kamana'o and his dad thank the guests for coming.

Luana Sala Retires from Kamehameha

January 7th, 2012

Ho'omaika'i Pita and Luana Sala on Luana's retirement!

As the invitation said, “After over 240,000 hours of pure labor, the family is celebrating her well-deserved retirement.” The beautiful setting chosen for the event is the Kahalu’u Fishpond, featuring a house in the middle of the fishpond wall, far across the water, made famous in film and television productions, notably “Karate Kid II.”

Over 200 friends and family from far and wide, and from the distant past, converged to wish Luana Sala a happy retirement. The food was prepared by hand, by family and entertainment was provided by “Ekolu Mākou,” the Gora sisters. Danny Kaleikini, her huband Pita Sala and his brothers, nephew Aaron Sala, and other ‘ohana all lent their talent to the occasion. Hawaiian and Sāmoan mele filled the air. Dancers and tributes were in no short supply in celebration of the happy occasion.

Aloha Luana, and Pita! Ho’omaika’i kela!

Maui Mechanical Menehune at Lego Robotics

December 4th, 2011

That's my nephew, Zack Fasi, of the Maui Mechanical Menehune on the big screen at Blaisdell during competition, yesterday.

That’s my nephew, Zack, chief engineer on the Maui Mechanical Menehune Lego Robotics Championship Team, and my sister, Leann, head cheerleader, yesterday at the Blaisdell Center Arena for the State Lego Robotics Championships!

Way to go, Menehune! The kids got second place behind the ‘Iolani team.

I should also mention that my pal, Kimberly Svetin’s kid is on the Moloka’i team, looking sharp in their gray shirts and black top hats!

Here are a bunch of photos I took of the event:
