This is my entry in the Earth Day 1998 Syncrhonous Global Wave Shoot known as "A
Wrinkle In Time 2." This shot was taken at 11:00 a.m.-sharp, on March 20, 1998
as part of a wave of photography that took place around the world. All of the photographers
in this particular shot pressed their shutters at 11:00 a.m. local time, wherever
in the world they were, thus following a wave around the planet.
The loose theme of the shoot was "The Wonders of Nature." This is as close
to mother nature as I could get in Downtown Honolulu!
This shot is at Honolulu Civic Center with Punchbowl volcanic crater (site of the
National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific where many of America's WWII dead are buried)
in the background.
A group of children is running up the grassy knoll to a preschool situated atop a
parking facility. To your left is the Skygate sculpture, Honolulu's City Hall buildings;
across the street behind you, Kawaiahao Plaza, offices of Bishop Estate; Mission
Houses Museum; and the intersection of King, Kapiolani and South streets.
In the center of the intersection is a lava rock fountain. Behind the fountain, the
blue-green newspaper building where I work.
