We flew into Kalaupapa and were honored to stay overnight in the settlement. We stayed with Dr. Kalani Brady, who was there to care for the patients. He spends 2 days a week in Kalaupapa. We met and interviewed patients, took an “insider’s tour” of the peninsula and stayed in the Kauka’s (Doctor’s) cottage.
